Hi all, I've just bought a new laptop and want to install AVG (or maybe Avast) a/virus on it. However, what "Windows XP home" settings do I have to do on the laptop to protect it when I'm online for the first time in order to log on to the AVG website to download the software. I'm likely to find the laptop riddled with viruses if I log on without any A/V. Also, my other laptop A/V is about to expire so I would like to install AVG on that, too. Do I need to download the avg a/v software to disc first in order to uninstall the Norton a/v first then install the AVG software after as I believe you cannot run both at the same time. Please keep it "numpty friendly" if anyone can help!!! Also, AVG vs Avast?
Cheers, Jon

I personally would be inclined to download a firewall (ZoneAlarm from www.zonelabs.com is a goodun although XP's is reasonable (ish)), and AVG, pop them onto a CD and install them offline first.

I think the stat is 12minutes before a unprotected XP machine is infected...
