Microsoft - Sneaky
Discussion
I bought my pc from a high street store with XP already installed. The latest updates that loaded automatically include a pack that records the identity of your XP key. Mine isn;t genuine apparently. Now it flashes up words to that fact every time I boot up. If I go on the website to disable this they ask that I agree that my software is counterfeit etc etc i.e. something that looks suspiciously like a legal document type thing.
ers.
Both MS and the people I bought the PC off.

I bought the PC a couple of years ago. Proof of purchase would be very hard to find now.
Not a name brand. Not a chain store. Small time bloke.

Had this on one of my machines albeit I don't neccesarily have a shop to blame
- if you are running system restore on yours then just set it back to a week or so ago and the update will be removed, I have done this and now turned off automatic updates on that machine, think I can still go onto the update website and get whatever new releases I need so not a great problem. But yes, bit sneaky.

What should the sticker look like?

I've just bought a couple of Dell PCs.
Although there is a license for Win XP Home, there is no CD media at all with it. How do I go about obtaining the media from Microsoft?
Waht do you mean media? Download Media Player for free. Offices is a seperate purchase.
I mean no windows CD at all, merely a copy of the install files on a disk partition.
