It's a pain but it can be done, I would though and replace it with AVG or Avast! which are free.

Depends what the knowledge base says on the link, have you clicked it?
It might be an update problem or something Norton related in which case I don't think you
can block it

I'm running both AVG and Norton AV right at this moment, as I appear to collected a 'visitor' from somewhere in the last few days, which is slowing things up and preventing internet access

AVG says 'Trojan horse downloader.istbar.9 AU'

where as Norton has checked twice the number of files without turning up anything

Would second that suggestion of AVG instead of Norton.

so given NVA's apparent ineptitude compared to all singing/dancin' AVG

how easy is it to rid myself of this distraction

installed it and ran, but nothing turned up
cheers anyway.

AVG mentions a trojan in the C drive (limewire) tsckk! download files.

but it continually pops up, time and again, shoulden't it delet it, the virus vault always shows empty?

Sometimes the program can't delete it. Make a note of the location & delete it directly.

Load in safe mode, change its roles first to read only (remove execute) then delete, if it has a copy on delete function this should help prevent it.

Right then,

touch wood,
I appear to be virus free, at present.

Ran, and re-ran,
AVG
Norton
Mc Afee
Win registery repair
Spywarebot
Windefender
and Windows clean up pro

one or all of them appear to have done something

now how do I best protect my PC, given that Norton
continues to display the notice in my first post
