Im looking at upgrading certain areas of my system to increase performance, the first of which is memory

Now Im running 1x512mb DDR333 PC2100 memory on my pc and I am looking to increase that to 1536mb

My question is can I run a PC2100 memory stick alongside a PC2700 memory stick without any problems?

Im not overclocking my machine or anything as Im a bit of a dunce with this stuff

The machine would probably boot and work fine in this configuration but you will find that all of the DIMMS would be treated as PC2100 so you wouldn't see the full performance gain.

Personally I would buy 3 x PC2700's (or higher) and then flog the old ones on eBay.

Yep - the 2700 will just be running at 266MHz instead of its design speed of 333MHz

Broadly speaking yes, there are a couple of gotchas depending on the board but the vast majority of the time you'll be fine.
