I went on my laptop yesterday and tried to go onto Intenet Explorer, and i was very surprised when i got the "could not find webpage" famous white screen come up.

I then went through my network settings and i don't know what they all mean so i left it, i then tried it with my xbox 360 connection (through ethernet, laptop one is USB) and it worked great

What possibly could be the problem? I'm really stuck on this one and am considering calling someone out to fix it.

Many Thanks in advance,

Steve

So how do you connect to the web, via a router or a locally attached modem?

Sounds like a dns cache issue. Load up a command prompt on the laptop. Then:

ipconfig /flushdns

followed by

ipconfig /registerdns

Then it should all work again, but could take up to 15mins for everything.

I had a problem some time ago with NTL which meant i couldnt get on some websites. Nothing would find them even trying to ping them in command prompt saw nothing. I then setup my connection through one of NTL's proxy servers and it cured it, now if things get a little slow or dont work i just change proxy servers.

This happened to me a short while back, apparently NTL were updating their servers or something.
Changed proxy servers and all was ok.
