I've just expanded my PC's storage (yet again), and I've added a pair of 500Gb SATA-II Seagate's.

This has given me the opportunity to try out IDE / SATA RAID for the third time in recent years (each with different disks and RAID cards), and yet again with similar results as previously...which basically are:

- Distinctly average performance
- Random (but regular) failure of the array (but not the disks, and all sorted by a time consuming rebuild).

Is this just me, or is IDE / SATA RAID just not there yet? Has anyone tried the XFX Revo? (www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=1366&redirect=yes)

The Dell 0/1/5 SATA controllers you can get in SC1420's seem to work well, havent given a seconds trouble allthough I havent done any benchmarking on them. Gotta love those cheap-ass ones they build into motherboards though, 'engrish' all the way baby
