Tomcat hosting needed
Discussion
Just putting this out to the PH massive as I'm drawing a blank on this so far.
Need a hosting package that has Tomcat 5 but also allows shell access to telnet.(don't ask me why as it's a demand from my biz partner who's the coder
As this will be a departure for us (we usually do websites in PHP) we initially only want to try it out so don't need a dedicated server for instance, a shared hosting package will do (VDS perhaps), Don't want to spend a fortune as it is only something for us to test out so £100 - £200 a year is all we would be looking at spending.
Bandwidth is important, don't want silly little numbers like 6gb/month. Looking upwards 50-100gb/month without incurring additional fees. Also prefer UK hosted, US if it really has to be.
Have looked around but just can't find anything in the UK. Register1 was my first port of call and ticked all the boxes except telnet access (I'm trying to persuade him that he doesn't need it)
Any body got any ideas or recommendations.
Cheers, John

The Register1 VDS Comes with Tomcat 4 (JSP), however for Security we dont allow SSH access.. you wont find many places that will given 9/10 root exploits require shell access. My Staffers will happily perform any odd shell tasks you need tho (wget/tar/untar/cronjob setup etc)
You might find some kiddy in the US offering you what you need, but then, you take your chances.
Lemme know if you have any queries.

I'm coming to the conclusion that he is going to have to do without shell access as we are unlikely to get it unless we have our own root server but didn't want to commit to it until we were sure we can do what we plan to do with it...
I asked your support guys some questions about it a couple of weeks ago Jamie (very helpful btw), it may well be what we go for in the end (although I'm gonna have to go through the pain of getting a domain transferred over to you from 1&1
)
