Hi All,

My parents are in the market for either a DVD Recorder or a HD Recorder.

I mentioned to them the HD Recorder because for what I've read it takes a long time for DVD Recorders to "boot up" is that still the case?

Their TV has integrated Freeview so either option must be able to cope with it. (Am I correct in thinking that as they have a Freeview Tuner in their TV they can get away with only having one Freeview tuner in the DVD/HD Recorder? (Eg. So they can watch one channel and record another?)

If the best option is an HD recorder, do the ones that support usb allow you to download to a Laptop for recordings to be burnt to a DVD (which can be played back on normal dvd players? )

The budget is about £200 and must be easy to use!

Thanks,

Phill

Edited to add - Looks like this Humax could do the job!

Look at the Pioneer 440HX-S or Sony HX710. More than budget, but you get what you pay for.
Pioneer would be quicker to power on and start recording, done manually. Otherwise, if done via programming, then it'll know itself how much earlier it needs to turn itself on at.
