Hi Chaps, i've just downloaded a DivX (legally of course) and it won't play in Media Player. I'm assuming it's a codec problem, but how and where would I find that out?

Sorry in advance for the daft question

usually a .divx file will play in the divx player itself, something just requiring a divx codec but still an .mpg or whatever will still play in media player

You can download the divx player free here anyway, should play every divx type ever made
www.divx.com/

Or else try vlc that usually plays anything

Bugger, didn't work on the DivX player. Even though it's an avi file. Weird? Any other suggestions?

Could it be Xvid?

Dunno if that plays natively in the Divx player.

Google for Xvid codec and download it

Get hold of GSpot and run it, check the video with it, it'll tell you what it is and if you are missing any codecs for it.

Thanks FWD but BUGGER it says "not a valid avi file". Looks like that was a waste of a days downloading.

Rename it to .zip and see if you get anywhere..
