I used to use WinMX without problems, although that has now been switched off (last time I looked). I've loaded up Limewire and that seems to work great. Anybody know if it is encrusted with spyware? I've done a quick google but turned up no results to suggest it is.

Which are the P2P networks to use these days? I've always been an emule user but it doesn't seem quite as nippy as it used to be... I'm after a varity of stuff so I guess i'd be after the best all round network?

Limewire as an app is clean, you need to more concerned about what comes down the line.

Always run good anti spyware software, and tend to run it after using any P2P just to be sure.

Yep get good antispyware and a firewall and limewire is ok. Just pay attention to the file sharing options in the setup.
Remember noone has been prosecuted for downloading files, only sharing; I tend to drop uncopyrighted images in that folder..
If you are after serious downloads, do a google for Grabit and Binaries newsgroups.....

BTW
www.spywareguide.com has a free spyware detection and removal tool, this is sold in a corporate environment as Facetime RTG, ( which i sell and install) and is excellent.
You need to enable the activeX control to get it to work.

Indeed. I am well aware of the need for that.

Generally for music, an unscrupulous person could use warez for grabbing whole albums at a time but P2P is handy for getting individual tracks.

problem with p2p is that you ip address is clearly visible to anyone browsing, check out bt, with clients like azureus and utorrent

music - try usenet generally news.ispname.co.uk, if u can think of a music type, then it is there. good news reader helps as they often mutlipart files

peerguardian2 http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ helps with this a fair bit - blocks connection to suspect ip's
