Outlook express / pop3 question
Discussion
Hi, is that IT support?
So, I'm trying to do the whole microshaft/pop3 thing and I'm getting the following error when trying to send mail:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.****.co.uk', Server: 'mail.****.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I have server authenitcation set to on as requested by the thingumy and the same username and password as used for retrieving incoming mail which seems to work ok.
I have another pop3 account which is working fine and uses the same ports (if that makes any sense).
Anyone help me? I can answer questions about diesel engines in return and you never know when that will come in handy.

Could be firewally...
Type the following on one line with spaces exactly as typed.
telnet mail.****.co.uk 25
You should get a response of some sort depending on the mail server at the other end. If the connection fails it's a firewall/connectivity issue rather than Outlook.
Aha!
Can't connect on 25 but do get something on 110. So I guess you are right.
Cheers, saved me wasting any more time on it.

If you are receiving emails OK, it sounds like your server needs authentication although you say you have done it..
In Tools/Accounts/mail/properties/servers have you definately got the "My server requires authentication" box checked, did you click save when you checked it?
Do you know anything about Perkins P4 engines?

Checked that a few times, tried 'use the same settings...' and typing it in manually.
Perkins are a bit agricultural for me but I'll give it a go!

You need to check for any corporate/personal firewalls between you and the ISP blocking port 25.BliarOut said:

It'll be the corporate firewall I'm sure. Never mind, was only trying to save the hassle of arseing about with webmail.

You can POP3 your own mail from anywhere to receive it using the correct password for the server that goes with the e mail address. However to send mail (the SMTP bit) you will need an account and password of the connection you are trying to use which will be different to the receiving part IF you aren't using the same ISP as the one that hosts your mail. For example I POP3.snap.net.nz with that password to collect mail as it is a snap.net.nz address - I SMTP the return as SMTP.clear.net.nz when sending using the different password for the Clear account. (clear offer cable broadband - snap don't - I have to pay £1.50 a month to keep the dial up connection with snap so my e mail address is kept, but I very rarely use it - had to the other day though as the City Council chopped the Clear cable into the house whilst doing some gardening!)
Anyway the real reason for the post is that I have Rover 418 with about
160,000 miles on it (Peugot diesel engine) that uses lots of oil, is it likely to be valve stem seals and can they be changed without taking the head off?
Cheers from down under.

That, head gasket or turbocharger (if present) are some likely suspects and as for the head, not a clue!
Cheers!
