Hi all, I'm a complete newbee to PC's . . . iMac and all . . . Apple since '86

I've just setup the pc for the missus and all's working just fine. BUT the WindowsXP startup procedure requires a connection to the internet (for registration) and that'll take more than the 6 days trail - according to the screens info. I just wanted to make sure the hardware's working and it does. PC's moving downstairs when I got a suitable table and after that we'll sort out the internetconnection . . . You all know how these things go.

So, what's gonna happen? XP stops after six days and I've to set the thing up again . . . or worse?

Please enlighten me.

And no, I'm not going to moan about Windows and all.

Cheers, Dink.

I believe that there is a telephone number you can phone, for registration.
Someone who knows the actual answer will be along in a mo!

You don't need to register but you do have to activate. When you go into activation its asks if you want internet or telephone.

Pick telephone and follow the onscreen instructions its very straight forward but takes a while on the automated service to listen to the 25 digit codes.

I thought the grace period was 30 days? In any case you can activate it over the phone.

After the activation 30 day grace has elapsed, when you boot up you won't be able to log in untill it's activated either by telephone or 'tinternet.

Already regret buying a PC, Albert?
(I know, it didn't cost you much...)
Nothing beats a Mac when it comes to ease of use, does it?

Nothing could get me away from my Mac. They've tried at work!
