Is it considered ok (or legal(?)) to direct visitors on your website to advertisments?

(Not automated redirection, but asking people to visit links.)

Apologies if I have explained that poorly.

If you're asking if you can say something along the lines of, "Please support this site by visiting our sponsors/advertisers." then I have seen that in widespread use and it's certainly not illegal and I doubt any visitor would have a problem with it. Even disguising links to take people to advertisers is probably not illegal, but it's extremely unwise as it only takes one person to complain to the advertiser or advertising agency (e.g. Google AdWords) and you can be blacklisted. Plus, of course, annoying your users is never a good thing.

The 'Ads' are banners I put on as part of a referral scheme. They are not Google Adwords or payperclick type ones.

In that case it's completely illegal and you can expect the FBI to come knocking on your door.
