I need to write some scripts in a windows environment,
move/poll files, create logs etc ... that will run from a scheduled job, same type of thing you'd use Unix shell scripts for.

is there something better than DOS batch files ?

Yes! Search MS downloads for PowerShell, and/or Scriptomatic.

Alternatively there's allways vbscript?
