Hi

I had all my new PC stuff yesterday, and have set it all up without a hitch (can’t wait to see what my games look like with the new CPU and GPU )
My only problem is that the new mobo has only one IDE connector, which I need for the DVD drives, and I have 2x120 Maxtor IDE HDDs containing all of my files and backup stuff. I can and have accessed them simply swapping the IDE leads from the DVD drives, but obviously not ideal!
What I need to know is this – Are there adaptor leads available that can be plugged into the SATA connectors on the mobo (of which there are 7 in total!), and plugged into the IDE HDD at the other end?
Alternatively, for such a new system, would it be worth just buying another 2x250GB SATA HDDs instead, and simply transfer my files onto the new drives?

Cheers

Chris

(who hasn’t been entirely honest with the Mrs about the cost of my new PC bits, saying it was a slight upgrade of the mobo )

Google it.

I've built quite a few Shuttle PC's over the years and they come with SATA to IDE in the barebones package...

First result out of Google, although it looks pricy to me: www.mcsx.co.uk/shop/s-ata-to-ide-converter.htm

Shop around, I've got a feeling it should be a lot less than that...

Scan come through at under half the price: www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=176415

Any reason for wanting to go the IDE-SATA route instead of just adding some more IDE sockets on a PCI card? 15 quid for two of those SATA adapters, but only 10 quid for a 2-channel IDE card...

I did consider a PCI card, but have no real room for it - I have a Creative XFI (!!I think!) soundcard, in one of the 2 PCI slots, and above that I will eventually buy another Nvidia GF 950gx card, for quad SLI, meaning that I will have no space at all!
I may just bite the bullet and buy a pair of new 250GB SATA hard drives, as they're not exactly bad value for money..
