Dead gfx card - moral dilemma.
Discussion
My brothers 9800pro agp has just died, and so he wants a replacement. Thing is, all the current agp cards are near enough the same speed and cost £100 quid. I'm worried about him buying something that's out of date already. It runs most of his current games fine, but it being agp is a dying technology. Should he get a x1600pro, or should he bite the bullet and upgrade to AM2 and pci-e ? He's currently got a 2800+ and 768mb ddr333.
Thats a toughie!. If he likes playing games, then I'd say yes, go for an upgrade, the old XP 2800 is a good chip, but I found that even with my 3,2 Prescott, 1gb of ram and X800 pro were starting to struggle with newer games like Oblivion and HL2 ep1. I found it difficult to find good replacements for the older AGP , non PCI Express boards, so I bit the bullit and did a full upgrade.
If however, his PC's used for nothing more than office programs and net browsing, it wouldn't be worth it.
