Yep, did a 5.10 install followed by the 6.06 online update followed by 'easybuntu' for all the codecs, etc. Use it as my main machine at work and Everything Just Works

Ahh so you can go from 5.1 to 6.06 via the update manager?

Smart!

Yes! but IIRC you have to change a setting or click some kind of button to get the 'upgrade to 6.06' option in the update manager - sorry I can't be more specific right now.

Have a nice little p4 Dell box that I aquired for a song at home, and a ubuntu 5.10 DVD sat next to it, it would be rude not to.

Anyone have any ideas, I tried to run this for a mess around a bit on my comp..

It ran OK and the mouse worked, then it just stopped working and the mouse froze completely!
Any ideas? I quite fancy Linux for use when I get sick of XP.

Dave.

Perhaps it needs new batteries?

You didn't overwrite the boot partition or something did you?

Always worked fine for me.

Hmmm... I might try the 32bit version, maybe that was causing problems.
(And yes, before you ask my Comp IS 64bit )

agreed, there are degrees of "just working" - It does work very well as a desktop compared to most other Linux Distro's, but it's not quite up with Windows much less OSX.

okay, during the install it asked me for a username and password, but not for a root password. Now when I need to specify the root password, I don't know what it it, and it certainly isn't my user password.

I run "update-manager -d" and it tells me my system is up to date, so where is the "dapper" upgrade that I'm supposed to be able to get?

Finally, I installed flash into firefox, nice and easy, but do you think it can display my flash website? No, half of it is missing:

I'll persevere and I'm sure I'll work it out, but that's 3 problems in 3 minutes on a clean install I did 10 minutes ago.

Theres no root password in Ubuntu.

If you need to do anything as root you use the sudo command, when it prompts you for the password its the password of the logged in user...

If you've got kids try apt-get gcompris - its great!
