MSN Messenger - anyone help
Discussion
I'm using Beta 8
I've told it to keep history of conversations, and it has done
I haven't done anything to it (ie changed any settings tonight)
But I've lost all my conversations - some of which I did want to keep
The only ones there are ones from 8.30pm this evening onwards, wheras before then there were loads.
Can I get them back?

Why are you saving your conversations?

It's an automatic feature, and some of them were special to me.

Years (and years) ago I lost all my ex's very personal emails I was devastated at the time, but looking back it was good, helps you move on.
Fingers crossed it does!
just found this...
MSN Messenger saves a maximum of 8,192 messages to your computer. Once this limit has been reached, you can archive or delete your older messages. Archiving will save your message history as a separate file. Deleting will remove your oldest messages to create room for new messages.
also says it should give you the option to delete or archive. Have you tried doing a search for a phrase or unusual word that was in the conversations to see if your computer has moved it elsewhere?

When you archive the log it normally renames the log file as <contactname>1 and creates a new file as the current one. Obviously the successive archives become 2,3,4, etc.
That figure of 8,192 I think is per message contact. Most of my contacts are still on the first one but I have gone onto 3 or 4 with a couple of them.
