Quick question.

I am now spending some time in a business centre with a WiFi connection and while I can receive mail, my outlook is set up with a smtp.ntlworld outgoing conection. Is there a way to set it up to use what ever connection I am using at the time???

Thanks
Sam

how you connect to t'internet, and your mailserver address in outlook are two different and unrelated things....

Just connect, open outlook and click send/receive.

'fraid not.

You'll need an SMTP server that'll accept any IP address which isn't many. The only way I've managed it is to pay for an SMTP server that allows me to relay through it.

Common problem I'm afraid.

If you ask the business centre they may have an SMTP server address you can use, but I doubt it.

You'll have to use Webmail I'm afraid if not.

Edited to add: You'll only be able to send through the NTL SMTP servers when you are on the NTL network. If you are on another ISPs network, you'll not be allowed to relay email through NTLs SMTP servers.

If you need an email account that has SMTP Authentication drop us a line. We sell them on a yearly basis for about £12+vat.

Useless piece of background info I discovered when I too found I couldn't send e-mail from my WiFi enabled business centre (Corney and Barrows ) ... As described, your ISP won't accept outgoing mail from anything other than your home IP Address. The reason they feel compelled to do this is because mail is sent using a protocol called SMTP, and SMTP provides no security ... SMTP is really hopelessly inadequate, but there doesn't seem to be any other widely accepted standard for sending e-mail. That this situation exists is really quite mad, because there are plenty of secure authentication methods that could be used, and there is absolutely nothing special about sending an e-mail.

Sam - does your company have a Web site? If so it's more than likely you can send your email via their SMTP server.
