Anybody know of any cheap (freeware) software to do this:-

8:15am -> 12:15pm
1pm->4:15pm

Total=7 hours. 15 Mins.

Its ok for 3 or 4 amounts but having a page full is giving me a headache.

I know its not freeware, but its fairly ubiquitous.

Any ideas how? If so I will use Openoffice.

not quite sure what u want or are trying to put across

this is a column from spreadsheet

8.00 site 1
8.30 site 2
9.00 etc
9.30 zzz

You can change it to whatever time period you want and then add in what u have been doing

In Excel:

Select columns A-C and set the cell format to Time
In cell C1, enter the formula "=B1-A1"
Copy this formula (with the Fill Down command) into as many rows as you need
In cell D1, enter the formula "=SUM(C:C)"
Enter your start times in column A and your finish times in column B...

Note: this won't work if your start-finish timepair spans midnight (e.g. 23:00 -> 01:15).

Remember to add a column to put in how long you have for lunch and sub it from teh total. Then have fun converting from the hours format back to normal numbers for weekly totals...

I was assuming the OP was explicitly entering just the hours worked - hence their example start-finish pairs having a gap which looks suspiciously like a lunchbreak.

Yeah, just remembered that...

Hmm, second attempt...

Select columns A-C and set the cell format to Time
In cell C1, enter the formula "=IF(B1>=A1,B1-A1,B1-A1+1)"
Copy this formula (with the Fill Down command) into as many rows as you need
In cell D1, enter the formula "=SUM(C:C)"
Set D1 cell format to Time, selecting the type which doesn't restrict the hours value to 23 (in Excel 2000 it's the 6th type listed
Enter your start times in column A and your finish times in column B...

This will now permit timepairs to span midnight (though the maximum length of each timepair is still limited to 23h59m), and the overall total shown will be correct for values of 24 hours or more.

The .xls version of this can be found here
