Have an Acer 1690 laptop that used to (a month or 2 ago) have a fully topped up battery life of 3 hours.

Now i can leave it on charge overnight and still using the same power settings as above i get 1hr 15 mins top.

Any one got any ideas whether its my charger, battery or anything else?

Its still under warranty.

Bad battery cell(s), bad charger circuit in the laptop.
Backup data and send it back for warranty repair.

Sounds like the battery is on it's way out. I used to get 2hrs out of my Dell battery on my 9200 (17" and now it's down to 1 and a bit. Batteries aren't covered under warranty.

Try going into setup on booting - I know on my gfs laptop you can calibrate the battery. You may just not be able to charge it fully. Hers loses about half and hour every few months, doing this tops it back up.

Could also be software related (less likely, mind)... if there's anything running that's hitting the CPU hard then the drain from it will go up massively (then there're the fans kicking in, etc). Quick test for this would be whether the fans seem to be on an inordinate amount.

They should be, but are usually limited to a year.

Cheers for the posts.

Firstly, no battery option on setup. Just on power management program. Still doesnt do a lot.

Secondly, yes now you mention it the fan is on a lot, but cant see a big cpu drain on the task manager.

Thirdly. Hopefully the battery is covered. Dont fancy £45 for another....
