I have a new Vaio laptop (ie new last week). My problem is basically the IE hompage is locked to the Sony Vaio support homepage.

I have no viruses, I run AdAware, Spybot S&D, ZoneAlarm and Avast antivirus. The PC is clean.

I have been into the registry and sure enough the www.sonyvaio address is there in various places as the Start Page for IE.

The problem is when I try to manually delete these entries in the registry I get windows error message saying "Unable to delete all specified values"

Why can I not edit my own registry? Why the f**k can I not take control of my own laptop? I should add that Firefox works fine......

all suggestions gratefully received.

What happens when you change the home page in IE->Tools->Internet Options...?

Why not try Hijackthis ? It resets all IE settings back to the Microsoft default and changes registry settings for you ?

Done that already too, it identifies the BHO problem correctly, but when you 'fix it' the registry entry reccurs.

It's as if the registry is 'write protected' and I can't alter it.

I've also been on the sony-vaio.com forums, but not posted, and there are numerous suggestions on how to unlock the hompepage, but none of them get any further than accessing the registry and getting that right....which is where I'm stuck

will

Sorted!!!!

FYI: started the computer in Safe Mode (F8 whilst booting) and edited the registry there

works fine now,

if only Sony hadn't pre-locked the homepage to them, I wouldn't have had this problem

grrrrrrr

Get rid of Internet Explorer and download Firefox.

There is an extension called IETab which switches the behaviour of Firefox to IE for Online Banking and the like. You can then flick it back.

Failing that, IE7 is out soon
