Maximum length of a USB cable?

[meeja]

Is there a maximum length for a USB cable to connect a printer to a PC?

Longest oens I have seen are 5m.... ideally needa round 7m to make a particular office setup work properly!

Yes

But you can get extentions! B&Q Sell them if there's nowhere cheaper near you.

5m is the max length according to the USB spec. Beyond that the signal stability is not guaranteed.

However, in our shop we sell an active USB repeater cable which has an amplifier built in to it to boost the signal. The manufacturer reckons you can cascade 5 of these to give 25m, but i've never tried it. They are £14.99 each.

I think that's covered by the USB spec too.
