I'm pretty puter literate, but when It comes to the ins and out of how Broadband works, I haven't got a clue.

What I need to know is, is it possible to have connections with 2 ISPs at the same time using the same DSL line?

I'm planning to leave my current ISP shortly but I want to join the new ISP this weekend. I want to do this to give me a transition period so I dont have to try and change everything at once.

Nope.

You can have Cable and DSL at the same time
or 2x DSL on 2x Seperate Master Phone lines (different numbers, different cable in)
but you can't have 2x DSL on the same line, else everyone would do that and have 2x the speed

Ask your current ISP for a MAC code and pray

As si says you ask your current provider for a MAC. You give this to your new provider, who will after 5-7 days transfer the ADSL service to them and it will be done with very little loss of service.

Don't even think about cancelling your current line and ordering a new one, or you will be without DSL for about a week and have to pay a reconnection charge!
