IT project management - starting point?
Discussion
I'm a techie with just over 6 years experience, doing a bit of everything but focussing more on server/network stuff these days - mainly Novell systems (I've just finished my CNE) and email (Groupwise/Exchange) with bits of linux and windows server admin too.
I'm doing more in the way of "projects" these days, some that I just get on with myself but some now that involve one or two people working on them as well. I'm kind of muddling through at the moment, but it's got me thinking about either getting some training (if we've got the budget for it) or self-study (if not).
I'm not especially fussed about getting a certification, or it being something I look towards doing full-time, but more learning the ways of planning and staying organised with this sort of stuff.
What can you guys recommend, either for training or some reading?
thanks, Simon.

Get onto the APM (Association of Project Managers) site and have a look around.
If you want to look at courses PRINCE2 is quite good for some general information however if you don't know how to project manage it will not turn you into a PM, it will however allow you to bring knowledge of good structure/control into the picture (though some intelligence is required in the actuall application of it to small projects!)
