Anyone thinking of changing to use these guys?

I'm tempted but am also wary. Currently have BT BB, and although I pay a lot for it, the quality of service is damn good. I hear all sorts of horror stories from colleagues about other (cheaper) providers that seems to have problems at busy times.

Also, will using Sky BB automatically change my background to a burberry pattern?

Tempted as well. From what I can make out they will do me a 16MB connection (exchange permitting) for an additional £5 a month.

I'm currently forking out £25 for a 2MB connection.

How bad can it be and still not be worth that saving!

What is the Sky offer?

I had a letter from them last night - but simply no time to read it yet.

I've got Sky + and the full monty Sky Package.

Mind you - I think I'm tied to BT for about 10 months, since they upgraded me to BT Max or whatever they call it.

Mine said they will be rolling out networks over the next 6 months (whatever that means).
In the meantime you can buy up to 8mb broadband for £17 per month.

Then wait until they have done whatever they are doing, and then get the choice of 3 options.
Base - monthy fee - FREE - up to 2mb data rate and 2GB monthly cap.
Mid - £5 monthly fee - up to 8mb data rate and 40GB monthly cap.
Max - £10 monthly fee - up to 16mb data rate and unlimited useage.

Sounds good, but most things that sound good don't always turn out that way....will have to wait and see.

Anyone have knowledge on the new BT Home Hub please?
Haven't had time to do the research yet except it only has 2 ethernet ports

Got a freebie in the post, so was wondering whether to bother with it or not

I'm moving soon and I'm mighty tempted - a tenner a month for unlimited 16Mb usage is a bargain, plus I'll be wanting Sky.

Not sure whether I'd get the full whack, but it can't hurt since PlusNets support went south...

Mine hasn't arrived yet, but as far as I can work out from the blurb it sounds like it is basically a wireless router, I got the impression that it also supports VOIP (presumably BT have set up their own SIP directory, so only to other people using the same BT service or by paying for an outgoing call) using a DECT handset or an ordinary handset.

Think your right there. Just been reading the blurb & I also reckon the voip is only available BT to BT customers.
OK if everyone is BT
Understand, though, it will be transmitting tv programmes etc but don't quote me til I've done more reading/research first

In the same position here. Never had a problem with BT.

Going to wait and see what www.moneysavingexpert.com make of it... they slated the Talk Talk "free" BB service...

I must confess I'm with Podie on this one.

Been with BTB for about 4+ years now, and have not had 1 iota of problems with them whatsoever.

Yes - I pay top dollar for it compared to the competition, but other than that I have no complaints whatsoever.

Now, if they could drop their price £10 to match the rest I'd be well chuffed.

But then, on the other hand - I pay for the full Sky package and Sky+, and if I get a good package at a good price, then I might be tempted.

Personally I'm not going to swap just yet, been offered the sky, orange and talk talk package for 'free'.

The market is obviously changing, I'll wait for everyone to show their hand.

Kinky - nice to see I'm not the only one who has never had a problem with BT.

I've also nosed at the Orange deal mentioned by Magic Torch, but I'm inclined to agree that the marketplace is changing. As you say, might be worth waiting. The next 6 months could be interesting...

So the rest of you are adopting the "Chez Sheepy" approach: Look at the blurb all excitedly, and then sit back and do nothing for six months because it must have a catch somewhere

16mb is LLU, that is great for big cities, but if u live in a vilage, maybe in 10-20 years time ?

basic package 2 GB, great for email but then sky have some BT client for distrbuting movies over the net, you will use up all allowance and then techsupport wil sell u the upgraded verion of 40 GB for what was it £20 per month ?

approx 5 GB per dvd and that is 8 films per month u can download and nothing else

they also have a fair usuage policy that was noted to have been not published, if money is all u care about, go for it, iuf u want service, theymight not be the best choice

£10 a month from memory - it still looks like a good deal to me. I wonder what actual contention ratio they run at though, I suspect that's how these ultra cheapies make their money.

Can I be lazy and ask what they didn't like about it? The price looked pretty keen.

£5 quid for the 8mb 40gb package, £10 gets you unlimited at up to 16MB.

And when sky launch their proper tv over internet service.. direct delivery to your hd or sky+ box, i will bet you the bandwidth used wont count against your Sky BB usage.

I got a similar letter from Sky too. Except in mine, they said more or less "even though we have this whizzy new service, it's not available in your area and we have no plans to make it available there". So why tell me about it, then?
