my brothers pc has a very strange habit, if you so much as touch a single key on the keyboard, click a mouse button, or even just slightly move the mouse, the pc starts up!, it hasnt always done it, only in the last few months, whats going on!!??

Is it being put into standby rather than switched off?

Any input movement will wake a pc from standby.

Some motherboards support "wake on keyboard" or "wake on mouse" in addition to "wake on lan", has this feature inadvertently been enabled in the bios?

If I go into standby via power saving mode then my machine wakes from user input, perfectly normal.

You can change what happens when you press the power switch, i.e. standby or hibernate as opposed to "switch off".

i ve just noticed that i said it was in standby mode, it in fact isnt, when you shut down, even if you select the turn off option it still does it.

Yep, defo Wake on Keyboard thingy - I had this with a USB mouse that kept waking my tossing pc up.

Used to wake up in the middle of the night to stupidly loud Windows logon music...
