Ok .. apologies if I get too technical ( ), but I'd like to build a quick easy website to upload lots of pics to that I can point my friends and family to .. ie a look-up-able big online storage area with thumbnails.

I have "shed loads" of pics so don't want one of those uploaders where you can only choose 10 pics at once and have to choose each one in turn, it'd take forever .. I need to ideally be able to select all the files in one folder and press "go" (like the handy function in photobox but that doesn't have enough space for all my pics) and it sends the pics and generates the thumbnail page and links to the full size images in one go. I'd ideally like about 5gig of space at the moment.

There must be something out there for just this job .. any heklp greatfully appreciated, many thanks in advance

Easiest would be to have your own website with Gallery running on it.

I'm sure Mr Beeston will be along in a moment...

I use Register1, and they have installed Gallery as a Power Tool for users. Takes all the hassle out of installing Gallery.

Works a treat - I have loads of pictures up, and loads of space left...

Gets my vote.

Jamie's site was the first thing I clicked on, see those targetted ads on PH really do work !! but didn't know what i was looking for hence the questions here .. but looks like you're doing much the same thing as I want to ..

it's the ease of use that I really need .. I just want to choose a folder and upload the whole lot in one go, I don't even need the option of captioning any pics at the moment .. I just want to get them hosted in a thumbnailable format so my friends and family can look through them all and download any big versions of thumbnails that they like.

Jamie .. is that what i can get and what sort of monies are we talking ?

cheers everyone

Ya, Gallery lets you do bulk imports (from local folders you've uploaded via FTP, or from other Websites on t'interweb) and generates thumbnails for you.

VDS Pro comes from £66 a yr (3-4-2 Deal) with 2GB disk and 100GB monthly Transfer (and a FREE Domain!)

Hi Joo

I can give you about 2.5GB space for nothing if you need it..! Then it's just a case of installing some software, highlighting and clicking GO! I've already been messing about with Galleries for PHers which is still under 'testing' shall we say so I can transfer that over to you.

I need to have a general tidy up of my webspace overall to be honest, if I get anywhere I can probably do nearer to 3GB. Unfortunately 5GB is above my limit at the minute, but if you drop me a line I might be able to get you a nice account set up for £50/year for 5GB space and an absolute ton of Bandwidth.

Thanks,
Dave.

Jamie,

can I get the gallery software updated on my website. How easy is it to update to Gallery 2.1.1 from Gallery 1.5 or is it better to upgrade to 1.5.3.

I know there are a few big changes between the versions and how it stores meta data, etc.

Cheers,

Ian

We don't offer Gallery 1.x Anymore

We do offer Galley 2 at present and will upgrade to 2.1 once the Vendor releases the upgrade, for now.

You can opt to upgrade your gallery to 2.x by clicking Powertools
Clicking to Edit the gallery in question and then selecting to upgrade to 2.0 (this assumes you have a VDS Pro, if you don't have a VDS Pro, you can click the 'Upgrade to VDS Pro' button and it will all be sorted, or, if you have installed gallery by hand, then you'll have to check their website and follow their instructions)

Enjoy.

quick question - can I upgrade straight over www.website.com/gallery or do I have to put it in a new directory www.website.com/gallery2

you can upgrade any Powertool installed Gallery.

Anything you installed by hand will need to be either upgraded by hand, or, replaced with a powertool installed one.

IF you like you can rename the current /gallery to /galleryold and then install the new powertool gallery to /gallery

Hope that makes sense

Drop me a mail if you have any more queries.
