Windows XP Spellchecker Problem

My PC uses Windows XP and the spellchecker will only use English (US) - as if it's a language anyway - not the proper stuff. It's really annoying me. Every time I chage the language to Enlish (UK) and check one mistake it goes back to US. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhh! It's driving me nuts.

I don't like 'recognize', 'color' etc.

Can anyone help?

And yes, before you ask, I am a luddite (happily)

In Word 2K3?

Tools > Language > Set language. Highlight English (UK) and click Set Default.
