Looking for a 1Gb card for my K800i, but everywhere seems to be out of stock at the moment. Is it worth saving a few quid and circumventing any availability issues by going for an unbranded version like this or am I better off sticking with genuine Sony memory?

My local Carphone Warehouse had some yesterday.

They're available on eBay all the time too.

TBH I wouldn't hesitate in buying an unbranded/non-Sony memory card, so long as the cards were 'the same'.

Nobody i have tried so far has stock either.

Bit weird i always think, all offering ever lower prices but nobody ever actually has any.

The carphone warehouse I went in last week had plenty, but I had the last 512mb card in the shop. Maybe worth getting your local store to do a stock check of other local stores?

Yep, there aren't many on eBay either, and the ones that are are going for over £50...

Looking fro 1gb plus cards though. And none of the ones i've tried have had any.
Though you can pre-order. Think i'll pass on that.

Apparently up to 32Gb will be available eventually but no more than 2gb recommended by the chap at Vodaphone.

1GB cards were available in my local carphone warehouse yesterday, think they were £59.99 IIRC.

Incidentally, why did the chap from Voda recommend no larger than 2GB?

Yep, read that. As I said, I've seen plenty in stock in the one I went in, so it would be worth getting one store to stock check the other ones in the area.

Thread resurection alert

Been asking around for the 1Gb M2 card locally.

CFW (Sony) - £66
Superdrug (Sony) - £50
The Link (SanDisk) - £44.95

Might wait a week or so to see if I can get one cheaper

eBay isn't offering them much cheaper than that anyway, even if you take the full auction route rather than a 'Buy Now' approach.

My guess is that pricing won't come down too much for a while. Even if a 1GB card comes down to sub-£40 prices it won't do so by very much for a year or so. We're nowhere near the £30 1GB M2 card so I'd probably get that SanDisk model from the Link now and make some use of it (£44.95 is a decent price I reckon, especially for a shop item).

But SD cards came out before the moon was created, and hence are very old now. Most new electronic devices are moving away from SD slowly but surely, meaning the cards are a bit cheaper. Eventually they'll become rare and the price will shoot up again (probably, maybe).

M2 cards are new and shiny and very, very small. And smaller things are always more expensive.

Try www.memoryforless.co.uk. I got my official sony 1Gb m2 card from there for my k800i for £39.99 (free delivery) and it came within 2 days. Great service and cheaper than ebay.

I'm such a doughnut. I paid 30 quid for my 512 from Carphone Warehouse. Idiot.

I guess as the M2 is fairly new and the K800 is going to be such a popular phone they will keep the prices high for a bit.

I always buy my memory online as you can get such good deals. I got my last one (Memory Stick Duo) through an affliate on Amazon for a bargin price

K800 looks like an awesome phone too.

1 x SON-MSA1GA Sony Memory Stick Micro M2 + Adapter 1GB

Total cost of Products in your Basket...... 28.78
Total cost of Delivery..................... 1.99
Total amount of VAT........................ 5.39

============================================================
TOTAL AMOUNT OF YOUR ORDER (GBP) 36.16

Will it arrive? Probably not. Typical SE though, new proprietory memory format, no supply. It's like MS Duo fiasco all over again
