Mrs Puggit and I have a laptop each (work machines) and an iPod each - and we use a Lacie shared disk/NAS type thingy. My iPod is 15GB and Mrs Puggit's is 4GB.

I've ripped all my CDs in to iTunes, mostly in to MP3 format but a sizeable amount accidently in to m4a format - and stored it all on the Lacie.

Having problems sharing the 20GB of music over iTunes - so can anyone recommend something we could use with this setup?

Mrs Puggit's iTunes can see my shared music folder - but can't access it or bring any information in. I'm assuming because it's on a mapped drive from my machine on the Lacie?

If it's a proper multiuser NAS device and not one of those nasty ones that require special software to read/write to it: Try mapping a drive on her computer to the Lacie same as yours?

Sounds like it could be a permissions issue. iTunes should be fine with your set-up, are you able to check what access she has to your folder? Presume you're using Windows?

It's a shared drive - there are no permissions? Certainly windows explorer doesn't show me a security tab in properties...

We both have a network drive mapped, but with different letters...

Quick thought. Can she use Windows explorer to move files to/from the NAS without any problems?

Hmm. Ok.
What about Explorer -> playlist on ipod? If I recal iTunes will let you drag n' drop files directly in to a playlist on the device.

I wonder... could it be something as simple as iTunes has written it's stupid little control files to the NAS share and your wife's copy is seeing them and just waving two fingers at her?

If your familiar with Winamp's media library you could use www.mlipod.com/ to manage it from inside Winamp.

Which is the conclusion I reached, hence the post

Kill him!
Ok. As that's happening... copy music to your loverly ladies laptop over the network and then to the ipod? Turn off the automatically sync thingie in iTunes and then delete the copied music once finished putting it on the device? :P

Or create a playlist on my iTunes, and then set up her iPod to only access this playlist?

Thanks for the help though

Well once copy of iTunes can feed multiple ipods so long as your not using DRM'd files. :P
