Is there still support for TomTom 3?

I've got a copy of TomTom 3 with the full european maps, but we're going away to Florida next week and thought about taking my TomTom with me as we're heading upto N. Carolina aswell.
Unfortunately, the TomTom website states that the American maps are for the Go series and TomTom 5.
Am I going to have to upgrade to TT5 or will the maps work on my copy of TT3?
We're only going to be needing the GPS for a week, so don't fancy forking out for the maps and an upgrade. The map alone is 59 euro's (I think) which is OK'ish and I'll probably sell it on eBay again once I'm finished with it.
