Does anyone have experience of tapeware. Manual scheduled backups work fine. However moving to a data rotation setup the first worked fine then the next jobs with brand new media in the drive give a 88 error with incorrect media.

Do we need to name all the tapes first ?

Any thoughts.

I hate tapeware, its the work of the devil.

I'm afraid that the only useful thing I know about it is that if you do a scheduled job to restart the service every day, then a single hiccup in a single backup won't cause the backups never to run again ever ever ever untill about a month later when the client finally gets round to ringing you to ask why the tapes arent ejecting. Then you click on 'continue' and have to get yourself out of a world of backed up jobs that you can't actually see are queued up, they just keep running and running and running... STOP THE MADNESS!!

Good idea to label/ID all the tapes anyway, that way at restore time all you do is select what instance to restore and it tells you what tape to put in. Instead of it just saying 'insert media #4567223466721b' when all your tapes just say 'tuesday 1' on them... if that makes any sense.

Hope this helps
