I'm struggling with a Small Business Server 2003 SP1 upgrade. The upgrade aborts and I keep getting this error message in the logfile:

Component Name: Client Deployment
Version: 5.0
Installation Status: Failure
Error Message: Setup could not create the ClientSetup virtual directory in IIS. This directory is necessary for the Windows Small Business Server Network Configuration Wizard to work. Manually create a test virtual directory, run setup again, and reinstall the client deployment component of Server Tools.

I know how to create a virtual directory in IIS, but where within IIS does it want me to create it?

I've been Googling for an hour with no joy.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Sounds like its just wanting you to create one anywhere to test that you can create them

Have you checked errorlog.txt

defaults to
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server 2003\logs

The AV is disabled at the moment.

I have created a virtual directory called ClientSetup in the Default Website folder of IIS manager and this just points to C: emp which I have also created but i still get the error message.

If you are able to create virtual directories then to do it manually you have to create a folder under inetpub called ConnectComputer then copy the contents off the cd into the folder (cd 3 \clientsetup)

you should end up with \inetpub\ConnectComputer containing default.htm + 14 other files

Then in IIS manager create a virtual directory called ConnectComputer and point to the folder you just filled
