ibm T30 laptop wireless card error

i currently have above laptop it is fitted with standard cisco 802.11b wireless card but i wanted to uprate to 802.11g standard gigabyte card i find speed to slow when opening bigger files etc,when i fitted this card removed old drivers etc,it just showed error wont even post just gives error & beep,fitted old card fine no probs,IBM seems to detect this new card as non compatible so wont boot,is there a patch or similar,im not daft round a computer but i am not no expert more used to full size workstations.it also as the software lenovo package to keep all the drivers upto date installed.oh im using XP PRO.

Unfortunatley knowing IBM, restricting the make/model of Wireless cards you can fit sounds very much like them.
