I know Firefox is a browser, but what exactly is it? If I download it and use it, does that mean internet explorer is no longer used, or can I 'pick' which one to use?

Yep, you can still use either & also choose which one you'd like to use by default.

So how do you remove IE? I'm buggered if I can work it out...

(although I can't remove it as too many other applications use it on my work machine )

I remove it... Its in "Add/Remove Windows Components" in Add/Remove programsin control panel.

Youre not getting mixed up with Windows Explorer are you?

If you mange to find a way to remove IE then you'll find very quickly that your Windows help won't function either, as it's delivered through IE.

Although you hate IE, there's no harm in leaving it on the PC. Just don't use it anymore for browsing.

That only removes it from the screen, it doesn't uninstall it, try typing the following into your run box "C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe" It will more than likely load IE.

Oh yeah, never noticed that. What the hell is the point of that!? scratchchin

OK, I used to use www.litepc.com/ with windows 98 and ME to make them run better. This software can remove (completely) loads of components from windows and they now do a version for XP so I guess thats the way forward if you wanted to complete ditch it.

As above some stuff wownt work. Theres lots of shared functionaility in those dlls, none that I use however.

Ive been using FF and mozilla for the last 3/4 years, never had any problems, except both my banks online systems wont work with it, I have to resort to IE...which kinda defeats the main security advantage I was supposed to get with FF.

You could try this extension.

BH - that is a saviour - thank you so much.

I've been a die-hard FF fan for a long time - but still have to use IE for work/intranet stuff as it's IE-coded. Hopefully this will fix it.

Top spot.
