Looks like Apple got the same dodgy batch of potentially overheating battery cells as Dell...

Will be exchanged at apple's (well ultimately Sony's) expense if your battery falls in one of the following serial number ranges. 2nd recall so far this year for my Powerbook!! Gonna be a bad profit year for Sony I reckon...

https://support.apple.com/ibook_powerbook/batteryexchange/index.html

12-inch iBook G4 A1061
ZZ338 - ZZ427
3K429 - 3K611
6C519 - 6C552

12-inch PowerBook G4 A1079
ZZ411 - ZZ427
3K428 - 3K611

15-inch PowerBook G4 A1078 and A1148
3K425 - 3K601
6N530 - 6N551

What was the other recall on your powerbook Andy? I've had mine since Dec last year - have I missed one?

Kris.

It was the battery. They're now recalling the replacement they sent me.... D'OH!!!!

Mine's an early '05 model, so yours was probably unaffected by the first recall.

Ah, all becomes clear. Mine is a last-of-the-line PB but actually shipped with a duff battery that wouldn't hold any charge at all, so this will be my third one as well

Still, at least they're doing something about it. It'll be interesting to see how quickly they can get 1.8m replacements out to people...that's a lot of batteries.

Damn.

On the other hand it shows how pervasive Sony components are. I wonder how many other manufacturers are going to have issues with these cells in the long run?
