Can't access Task Manager

Seem to have a problem with my desktop, everything was working ok this morning until i updated my Limewire software, now fan is running at full speed all th etime and i can't get into Task Manager to see what's going on. I've remeoved Limewire and restarted/shut the pc down but still no access to Task Manager. I've run AVG to check for a virus but checked out ok.

Anyone got any ideas?

Can you do Start -> Run taskmgr.exe ?

Incidentally, I also can’t connect to my wireless router (Laptop works fine) Desktop keeps going through routine of trying to acquiring network address then failing.

Hmm, I wonder what it has done to your network settings!

You may have to boot it into Safemode and investigate further from there. Either press F8 on booting, or do File -> Run msconfig and select Safemode from the Boot.Ini settings. Whilst you are there, you may like to check the Startup tab to see what things are being loaded when your OS starts.

Currently running CCleaner, i'll then look at the start up options, may be a good time to tell you i'm no expert on PC's

Still no access to Task Manager and fan still running at full speed, checked start-up and no obvious problems, is there anything in particular i should be looking for?

Just done a system restore to Friday and now fan appears to be behaving normally, however i still can't get into task manager and wireless network stil wont connect.

Gotta love computers!

Hmm this may be something virus like, or , the local security policy has got screwed on the machine ( you can switch taskman visibility on/off in the registry).
With the TCPIP problems, however i still think you may have something nasty.
Run a virus scan or two, then run the x-cleaner at www.spywareguide.com ( top right of the page ).

Thanks for all the help guys, finally sorted it by installing Nortons and running a few scans, turns out i had afew virus' and bits of spyware, think i've learned a lesson today, don't use Limewire
