I keep getting MSN messenger windows opening on my PC.

But I have never installed messenger nor is it listed in my programs add/remove list and its not running in the system tray.

The worrying thing is that the window that appears displays the hotmail address (different every time) which always includes the name of my girlfriend in some form and she does use hotmail.

Have I picked up a virus or something? Norton is upto date and has not picked anything up....

Sounds like someone has been on your pc using messenger. have a scout round in my documents to see if there's a my downloaded/my messages folder.
Do a spyware scan and do an update for norton and a deep scan.

Windows Messenger is located in "Add/Remove Windows Components" and not the standard "Remove/Change Programs", 3rd one down on the left when you open "Add/Remove Programs" ..

Thanks

Program removed.

I'm still concerned that the messenger window (or a good replica!) was appearing everytime with a different email address....updating Norton now for a thorough scan.

If you are reciving Windows Messenger spam then I suggest uninstalling it won't resolve the matter.

Check your firewall as it's disabled.

Not Norton Internet Security? I've seen people get trojans and bots though that with a couple of scripts in the past.

Besides if it really was doing it's job you wouldn't be reciving Messenger spam
