Anyone know where I can get a Deskjet 1220C service kit or indeed if such a beast ever existed?

Got one that's been heavily abused and despite 'kind of' working needs to be sorted out.

And no they aren't entertaining buying a new one... I checked.

HP call them Maintenance Kits, they do them for most laserjets, so it may be worth looking about for one for a deskjet.

Drat, looks like they never put one out for that model... or if they did it's long since been obsoleted and no longer sold as far as I can see on google.

Might phone HP themselves tomorrow on the off chance.

Ta muchly.

Paper feed picks up multiple or no sheet. Jams fairly often.
Leaves a trail of ink on the reverse side of the paper for several sheets after doing something 'intensive' i.e. large chunks of solid colour.. including black.

Occasional plastic sounding gringing noise from inside, although I can't spot anything jammed from a quick visual inspection.

Also the drivers say they can't communicate with the printer as far as ink tank levels go; but that could be a EPP/ECP issue, I've yet to slap a USB cable on the thing and as it prints it's not a major issue

Feeding will be worn rollers, something that HP seem to never get right. Not sure on the ink thing, unless it's obviously printing onto places where there's no paper. Might be worth scavenging one off ebay for parts.

Just did a few test prints on it, it's not so much missing the paper when printing as it is... well. If it doesn't load the paper properly the machine still prints out as though it's got paper under the head! The whole inside of the damn thing is covered in dry... and not so dry ink :-/

I think it's an ebay job or maybe convince them they can get a sucsession of £30 epsons or something, it's not like the thing has printed A3 in years.

From what I remember, the 1220c can only talk back to the PC via the (optional) Ethernet interface. It certainly doesn't report levels via USB.

That's the weird thing, originally this was hooked up to a Win-ME machine and it showed ink tank levels. Win2k and XP, the drivers, latest HP provide say they can't talk to the printer.
Be buggered if I'm installing ME on something just to see ink levels lol
Still, ta muchly for saving me a few squiddies on a cable... I'll write that one off as "dog old hardware Vs new OS".

Even if you've written that one off, for future reference...

The people I use for HP maintenance kits are www.bitsnpcs.co.uk - very good service I find. Serve joe public as well as trade.

But to be honest, all I do these days is maint kits, fusers, rollers, sep pads etc - if the fault is more involved then unless it's a fairly new & costly prnter, it's cheaper to scrap it & get another off ebay.
