I think this is possible but I'm not 100% sure so would appreciate any suggestions. I'm working on developing a new webber. The site is to replace an existing website that includes a load of products that are unrelated e.g. Sweets, cars, sofas etc etc. The idea is to get dedicated websites(URLs) for each type of shop.

Ideally I'd like to run this from the same application on one website for maintenance reasons and future devs. The easy solution is to have all websites point (redirect) to say a parent page, the problem there is that address bar doesn't show the website that the user clicked on in Google.

So my thoughts are to get DNS to resolve to the same IP address, I can then check the URL and decide what the user wanted to browse and maybe even a sub category of that(e.g. www rowntreessweets co uk). All subsequent links would also show the appropriate URL.

Is it possible?

Yes it's certainly possible to do. DNS is the first step, and Apache's virtual hosting directives can take care of the rest.

Cheers, it will be an MS server tho but I guess it's still the same concept.

IIS supports domain aliasing also, so not a problem

Hi Jamie,
Would you be able to put this on one of your servers. It'll be asp.net version 2?

I'd be quite happy to put your name forward to matey when we get to deciding who's gonna host it.

cheers

Thanks that's looking like a good option. Just one more question(sorry I know I should email and this is going OT) as I can't see it on the info pages, do you have MS SQL Server?
