I have got a webpage, a broadband connection, and a webcam.

What do I need to do so I can see my cat/car/house etc from wherever I am? Is it just a case of some software?

TIA

There certainly is software that you can use to do this. Have a look on something like www.versiontracker.com and you'll find plenty.
Im more familiar with macs than PC's (assuming thats what you have), but one that springs to mind for PC's is called Yawcam. Should be worth a look.

You need a webserver, a webpage with an activex control which will take the camera feed and stick it in the control and a properly configured firewall.

Most webcams come with all the software required to do this, you just need to open the ports on your firewall and host it on the machine that the camera is connected to.

Someone on PH used tincam software (www.tincam.com/) a few years back to set this type of thing up to monitor his cats
