I've never really bothered about the digital connections my sound card has and my monitor but i thought what the hell,i'll make the use of them, basically i want a recommendation of a basic, cheap hifi amp that has a coaxial,'digital in' connection on it that i could run from the digital out of my sound card,i just want to try it out and see if it makes a differece,at the moment im just running the sound card to an old analogue hifi amp.

You either need a DAC or most home cinema amps have SPDIF inputs.

That said mind you if its only stereo audio you plan to play over SPDIF the difference in quality will be negligible.

I do this, the quality is miles better as computer sound cards are very noisy.

I bought a DAT tape desk from Ebay it's a Sony and cost me £50, I use the DAC's in that to process the sound card and that is plugged into my regular amp.

Sound quality is really good, possibly a cheaper method that trying to source a reasonable AV amp for similar money.
