We are still using two way radios for five of our vans and this is quite expensive and getting a bit unreliable as fewer and fewer people make use of the repeaters.

I am thinking of adding five more phones to my account and phoning drivers instead, with this in mind would the forthcoming "push to talk" give a good service and enable me to speak to all at once?

I have been told it will be 12 months before it arrives here, is this correct?

Cheers
Nick

So why the feck is one of the buttons on the side of my work Nokia dedicated to PTT. Fecking annoying having to switch it off every time I hit the button by mistake, and No, I can't see how to make the button do something else.

Grrrr.

I think you'll find Orange either have it, or will do so soon
(they certainly have it working, as I did a bunch of work on it...)

It's almost like a walkie-talkie service using your phone and txt style audio messages.

I push my PTT button on my phone to send one to you, Bliar, and then speak to my phone "hi". Then your phone says, in my voice, "hi".

I understand it's cost position will be like using a text....so included in bundles if you have it, or 10p per message type thing if not.

Of COURSE it won't be "free"

@ work in 2000-2001 I had a phone on the 'dolphin' network with push to talk on it, it was ace. Cue lots of smokey and the bandit quotes, much hilarity ensued. Pitty the phone was crap and the network had about 1% coverage. No cost per message at that time IIRC.
