Is there an idiot's guide describing how I can connect WM5 to my home network somewhere online?

1) Select your idiot
2) Start Setting Connections
3) Wireless Lan
4)Little PC thing bottom left
5) Add New
6)Enter SSID
7)Enter Network Key, with security malarkey stuff

Enjoy.

Enjoy more Merlot.

If your wireless network is hidden ie: ssid not broadcast then be warned WM5 will sometimes struggle to find your network.

Have you tryed turning your wireless lan on to see if it can see said network? My wm5 has a little greencircle icon down the bottom right hand side of the screen which opens up wireless manager.

IIRC, "profile name" (or similar) is actually the SSID...

I've got multiple networks in range...

Like I say, I need an idiots guide (far from intuitive this UI!).

It's not on an MDA Vario type device is it? If so I'm having the very same problem. I can see my network (amongst others) but it just won't connect, even when I enter the key (the icon is displayed with a small red padlock symbol next to it).

I can connect to next doors unsecured network just fine.

Had same problem t'other day setting up my bosses pda.
If your clicking on new and it's asking for a username and password your in the wrong section! I know this isn't much help, but i only had the thing for 5 minutes to set it up and can't remember what i did. Your correct about the read only bit, you can't change that, you need to find the 'new' or 'add' button in the correct section to be able to put in your wifi details.
erm....i guess this isn't much help at all!

Something else to look out for is to make sure the phone part is activated. I can't get a GSM signal at home which eats the battery on my M5000, so I had the phone turned off. After you've done the initial connection it works fine. Non secured wireless works everytime ...

EHYW, so the trick I advised in your other thread didnt work? Thats a

First, temporarily disable the security on your network, then you can be sure whether its the WEP buggering it, or if the phone is just buggered in general

I shall give that a try tonight when my girlfriend comes home with the laptop that the wireless network was set up with.

I know the phone isn't buggered because I'm actually posting this from my MDA Vario right now, albeit using next doors unsecured 'Netgear' network. It works fine.

Bearing this in mind, would the answer to my problems likely be to simply turn off network key security on my router/network (if that is possible)?

I had a similar problem with a new US Robotics Wireless router, I found changing the channel from default of 11 to 9 and my XDA connect straight away
