I have downloaded a job application form off 'tinternet that goes into wordpad. Unfortunately when it comes up there are numerous little boxes scattered all over the document and when I try to delete them it messes up the formatting for the rest of the document. I did manage to get it almost right but it obviously didnt like the computer as when save it came back as the first two lines only!

Could anyone give me any tips on how not to mess this up again or would be kind enough to re-do it so it looks like a form that a bomb hasn't hit

The only alernative would be to handwrite and that doenst bear thinking about yikes hehe

Wordpad != Word.
Wordpad can handle only the very basics of of Word (fonts, basic formatting) anything more complex then that and it goes utterly mental.

Try downloading a copy of OpenOffice, it's free and if your own broadband shouldn't take too long. It can handle a lot (but not all) of the formatting Word is capable of... and often used by recruiters.

Thanks for the reply, when I go to download the document it only gives an option to open/save as wordpad mad, would Openoffice affect this at all or would I need to haul it over to that program?

Might be a unicode problem or just the wrong line termination. Try selecting one of the boxes and doing a 'multiple search and replace' to replace it with nothing.

During installation you can tell OpenOffice if you want it to open Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or not. So it's up to you if you want to use OO to open Word docs.

I'm going to assume that you don't have Office installed on your PC; hence it's only giving you the option of Wordpad.

Juts tried selecting the boxes, this causes them to disappear! (yay!), but then when you scroll down the doc. then go back up, or switch between windows on the system, they re-appear (boo!), plus two of the boxes for filling in (crucially the Forname and Surname bit) have no heading, trying to replace them just messes the whole form up again.

This is doing mt tree incry

Defo sounds like the document has more formatting in it than Wordpad can cope with.
