Hi folks,

I don't suppose you know how to stop spams?

I get about 100 everyday! I get about 2000 mails after a week or 2 away and there will be about 20 that are actually for me!

Drives me insane.

Its my own domain name so they can send it to "anything @ gn1.co.uk" most annoyingly, my host server don't offer any solution.

I don't use out of office replies, I have auto reply off, I don't open spam mails, but just delete them from the inbox and I don't give out my address to just anyone or anything. (if I do have to give it to a dodgy site, I put in the site name @ gn1.co.uk so that if they spam me, I know where it came from.

Help would be nice.

Move your ISP to one that can offer a solution. Most do as an included service.

Also, set up your mail system to only accept mail to the account you want. For example I have name@mydomain.com. Sending to [anything else]@mydomain.com gets ignored / dumped.

I also have mails to this account redirected to my gmail account, and that has an anti-spam solution in.

I used to use a bigfoot.com account, which is on my website so has been picked up by spam bots. I abandoned it for a while, but now also have that directed to gmail.

I have around 60 - 100 spam mails a day... and gmail filters 99% successfully.

Hope that helps.

If you want a gmail account (they're by invitation) drop me a mail through my profile and I'll send you an invite.

Thanks people. Ever helpful lot on here.

Can you suggest a host who are good, cheap and good at de-spamming.

I am currently with www.churchuk.net/ who are a christian thing. (don't ask!!) and were good, cheap and very honest. They only host about 150 sites and you can call them and get straight through to someone the other end.

But, they do not offer any spam help.

You should, at minimum, accept emails to postmaster@yourdomain. Or am I living in the past?

Depending on how exactly the system is configured and what software it's running.
Perhaps mentioning something like SpamAssasin+Pyzor+Razor+DCC and Rules De Jure to them. It'll integrate with most *nix mail server systems. Also if you hunt around the internet you'll find lists of known spammer IP addresses to that can just be added to a blacklist.

It's a fiddly resource hog of a barsteward sometimes but by god it can roar through masses of spam especially once trained, trusted and told to just bounce/bin high scoring systems.

The past. I don't want anything sent to postmaster! My email is clearly available on my site for humans not machines.

www.mailwasher.net is a client that intercepts the email before it gets to email client and allows me to add to blacklist, bounce, delete, view headers etc of any email i get on pop 3 account.

mail goes to a bigfoot account and only allows 100 mails per day, also use www.spamcop.net to report them, it seems to work ok after a while

got 3 gmail accounts for real name and online names, pluse some other rarely used emails used for filling in online forms as not care if they spammed

I've been evaluating Mailwasher Pro for several weeks as a replacement to Cloudmark Desktop, simply so that I can spam filter my webmail.

My conclusions so far is that it is vastly inferior than Cloudmark with far more false positives and false negatives. False negatives are an annoyance but false positives are a show-stopper as far as I'm concerned. Especially when one of them was sniffpetrol!

Edit: Mailwasher's bounce facility is reprehensible and is spam in itself. For that reason alone it should be censured.

spamnet works well for us - also make sure you only accept mail to specified accounts!

Sort your address bit out ie as someone mentioned only check for your specific address then you could some a email client like thunderbird which has effective antispam built in for any that get sent to your 'real' address.
