Following all the great advice that you guys gave me regarding my last post.
My web guy has now added all the necessary META tags to the site (plus a load more as well).
Can I now expect to get a lot more hits, or are META tags now "old hat".
I can go down the Google route and end up paying thousands of pounds, but could do with some other tips.

Google, broadly speaking ignores meta tags, some engines take note of them but as they were abused in the early days of the internet and as the Google context algorithm is so clever they dont carry the weight that they once did.

Its a good idea to have them in their as a catch all but dont expect them to be a solution to a traffic problem.

Its all about inbound links these days.

You should definitely have metatags on your site, but they alone won't have a significant effect on where you ranking within the search engines.

Are we talking about the www.cherishedmarks.net/ site here?

What keywords/phrases are you targetting?

looks like someone overdone the meta tags a bit too much

eg

Results 1 - 100 of about 20,900 for "car registration numbers". not going to search for yours, just pick the top ten or so
"car registration numbers" +cherishedmarks

Number Plates from £79
www.regtransfers.co.uk Buy with confidence and speak to us 8am-11pm, 7 days. Est 82.
Vast Choice, Cheap Prices
www.budgetreg.co.uk Private Number Plates, 20 million Registrations. Find yours now.

Did you mean: "car registration numbers" +cherished marks

No standard web pages containing all your search terms were found.

Your search - "car registration numbers" +cherishedmarks - did not match any documents.

suspect that correct spelling in the meta tags is more helpful than filling it up with all the possibilities, search for your site and u might get the idea

Its worth mentioning that too many meta tags can count against you, theres a length and if you go beyond it it marks you down.
