Trying to install a driver update as I'm having compatibility issues trying to play a new game, apparently a driver update should allow me to play the game, its an intel update, got the update off their site, downloaded it yet it wont install.
message comes up with simply:
this driver will not install on this computer

Did you definitely get the correct driver for your processor? I'd double check then maybe redownload if it is correct.

That's a very modest on board chipset. What's the game? what are the requirements?

Game is sims 2,
requirements 256ram, 3.5gb hd
32mb T&L or intel extreme graphics 82845/65/82915 require 2.0 processor.

I'm not too up on graphics, so I just copied these bits from back of sims2 case.

Running 256ram, and comp has a 2.2 processor.
However game has same problems on the computer upstairs which is running 1gb ram and 2.8 processor

Done searches for the issue, and found what to do to get game to work- i.e. download latest driver update, yet it wont install!

Best advice, is "sod it". Open the computer and look to see if you have a PCI-E, AGP or PCI slot free.
Then go buy a cheap Nvidia card that'll fit in to the free slot. This'll disable the onboard graphics (usually), freeing up system ram (computer'll be a bit more responsive) AND because your using Nvidia you can use their drivers which generally speaking are rock solid.

The Intel Extreme Graphics thing.... it's by Intel... it deals with Graphics.... it's unfortunatley as Extreme as washing the car.

Ahh... a laptop.... DOH! No graphics update for that wee beast then.

Desktop system (I tend to use Novatech as they're local to me in pompy but it gives you an idea):

PCI (low end, slightly better than the IEG the lappy has). www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?3DF-5525PC

AGP card (lot better than IEG, check manuals/ask if it's an 8x AGP slot)

PCI-E card (Crikey! )

Laptop = Can't upgrade graphics.

Ok... you can... if it conforms to a fairly recent standard but parts are a sod to get and... generally speaking no you can't.
