So, I have a Sony Viao, a Bush WS6671 TV and an AVerKey PC-to-TV converter (sic).

The convertor plugs into a USB port and VGA (monitor) socket on the laptop with no problems.

The other side of the AVerKey jobbie has the option of using an S-Video cable or three TULP sockets (female). There is no S-Video port on the TV. There are 6 TULP connectors on the TV - three on the back and three on the side which all appear to be inputs but are also all FEMALE! All the connectors are molded.

Do I now have to go the three miles back to Maplins to get a TULP-SCART convertor or a set of three male-male adaptors or am I missing something?

(BTW ... Bush's website tells me that online manuals will be 'along shortly'. I've already emailed their support but thought some wiz on here might be faster).

I'm not familiar with TULP - are they like RCA connectors? Red, white & yellow?

Funnily enough I re-connected up my FIL's AV setup yesteday and he has a video recorder with a set of RCA cables hanging off it so he can connect his camcorder. Those cables where male at both ends, so I assume this is pretty standard.

That's exactly what they are - red, white and yellow - the instruction card describes them as TULP connectors, but it sounds like they're also called RCA.

(Now going to hunt out the connectors for my old video camera).

Never heard of TULP, If they are RCA, then this will probably be composite video, which will be crap quality. I'd read the manual (or flick through the menu options) to see if your Telly supports s-video on one of the scart inputs. If it does, then get a s-video to scart converter (from Maplins).

You haven't mentioned the leads provided to connect the AVerKey jobbie to the TV, perhaps you were trying to plug them together directly without leads? I'm sure it would have been designed to be connected via leads, and from the sound of it you need a set of standard male-male leads, or you could get a SCART adapter if the TV has a SCART socket.

One of these jobbies (which will do s-video or composite)

Thanks, folks.

Back to Maplins it is, then. The heavens have opened again as well.

S-Video to SCART convertor (he keeps repeating to himself).

Thats assuming you have s-video on your TV, or you could just plug the phono (RCA) cables straight into the composite video sockets on the TV.

We have a dedicated PC connected to a TV 24h per day to watch the slingbox. Used s-video to Scart since the TV only has Scart-in. The picture is very good indeed - 95% as good as a digital satellite signal.

Get yourself a decent s-video to SCART cable or the picture will be rubbish. You also need to consider what to do with the audio signal... want it through the TV as well?

We got one of these:

www.svideo.com/proscart12.html

Very good picture and arrived within 4 days of pressing the purchase button on their website.

Check out your other devices ... I have S-Video and RCA on my TV. But I also have RCA on both my VHS player and my DVD player. Lots of places to plug in !
